Homeostasis
Homeostasis is, "the tendency for physiological systems
to stabilize internal conditions" (Martini, 1992, p. 6). Kabat-Zinn
(1990) refers to homeostasis as, "internal balance" (p. 244). Any threat
to homeostasis (called a
stressor)
will create
stress and
trigger off the
stress reaction
cycle.
